10th Company — Scouts and Veteran Rangers
The First and Final
The Chapter’s Crucible, where every aspirant begins their journey regardless of their future path.
Acts as the primary reconnaissance support for the Ranger companies, learning the art of the shadow first-hand.
Built upon a mentor-neophyte structure, where veteran Phobos sergeants chosen from the 7th and 8th Companies shape the next generation.
Defined by the Tradition of the Knot: Every scout carves a unique knotwork rune for their mentor, symbolizing the unbreakable bond between teacher and student.
The 10th Company is the foundation of the Bealach Wardens. In the harsh environment of Imperium Nihilus, there is no room for error; thus, the 10th does not merely teach a Neophyte how to fight but how to survive. Every aspirant, whether they possess the temperament of a heavy-armored Knight or a silent Ranger, begins their service here. This ensures that even the heaviest Gravis-clad brother of the 5th Company possesses a fundamental understanding of stealth and battlefield awareness.
The 10th Company maintains an inseparable bond with the Night Wardens and the Stormcloaks. In the field, Scout squads are often "tethered" to 7th or 8th Company missions, performing the essential grunt-work of long-range surveillance and perimeter mapping. This trial by shadow determines where a brother will eventually be placed. Those who excel in the patient, unseen kill move toward the Ranger companies, while those who display a sturdy, unyielding defiance under pressure are sent toward the Knightly orders.

Deployment and Squad Types
The 10th Company operates as a series of "Instructional Cells." They are never deployed alone in major theaters, always operating under the aegis of a more senior Ranger detachment.
Scout Neophyte Squads
Clad in lighter carapace armor, the Neophytes are the vanguard of the vanguard. They are tasked with the most grueling reconnaissance tasks: planting sensory arrays, mapping enemy patrol routes, and sabotage. Under the guidance of their Sergeants, they learn to read the "pulse" of a warzone, discovering that information is often more lethal than a bolter round.
The Mentors (Veteran Infiltrators & Incursors)
The 10th is unique from other Chapters in that it permanently hosts 20 Veterans drawn from the 7th and 8th Companies. These are not merely soldiers, but teachers. The Veteran Infiltrators teach the Neophytes how to manipulate the vox-net and vanish from auspex, while the Veteran Incursors instruct them on how to hunt. These Veterans are the guardians of the Chapter’s soul, ensuring the Raven’s cunning is passed down intact.
The Role of their Captain: "Master of Recruits / Master of Whispers"
The Captain of the 10th Company holds a dual title, reflecting the duality of the Chapter itself. As the Master of Recruits, he is responsible for the physical and martial development of the aspirants. In his second role as the Master of Whispers (which is not made known to those outside of the Chapter), he is the Chapter’s chief intelligence officer, distilling the raw data gathered by his Scouts and human intelligence agents into actionable reports for the Chapter Master.
In battle, the Captain is a formidable figure wearing articifer crafted battleplate adapted from his time as a Deathwatch Watchmaster. This reflects his history of service in the Long Watch, bringing a wealth of xenos-hunting expertise to the training of the Neophytes. He is a stern, observant leader who rarely speaks, preferring to let his Scouts learn through experience, although he is always close by in an Impulsor, ready to intervene with the cold precision of a master hunter if a lesson turns lethal.
