5th Company — The Iron Line
The Sentinels
Premier Heavy Gunline of the Chapter, specialized in long-range eradication.
Tasked with the garrison of critical strategic bastions and ancient mountain passes.
Where newly anointed Battle Brothers of the Knights learn the craft of bolt and shadow.
Serves as a cross training company for veterans of the Rangers companies before they ascend to the 1st Company.
The 5th Company, the Iron Line, is the embodiment of the Chapter’s tactical patience. If the 3rd Company is the stone wall, the 5th is the battery of cannons atop it. They are the masters of volume fire, trained to view the battlefield as a series of interlocking fire-corridors and ballistic trajectories. While the younger companies might feel the itch to charge the enemy, the Iron Line understands that a battle is often won before the first sword is even drawn—simply by ensuring nothing can survive the approach.
The Company serves as the foundational school for the Knight tradition. After a neophyte completes his tenure in the 10th Company, it is here he is sent to truly become a Brother of the Line. Under the watchful eyes of veteran Sergeants, these new Battle Brothers learn that a Knight’s strength is not just in his blade but also in bolt, but in his ability to hold a line under fire and deliver punishing volleys.
Unique to the 5th Company is its role as a bridge between the Chapter's two distinct philosophies. It is here that the most promising Rangers are sent to cross-train. Under the tutelage of veteran Sergeants, Rangers learn to master the heaviest ordnance the Chapter provides, melding their natural scouting instincts with the raw, disciplined firepower required of a Veteran. To see the Iron Line in battle is to see a synchronized machine of destruction where every shot is a killing blow.

Deployment and Squad Types
The Iron Line does not seek cover; they are the cover. Their deployment is characterized by high-ground dominance and the methodical overlapping of fire-arcs.
Heavy Intercessors
The foundational strength of the Iron Line lies in its 30 Heavy Intercessors. Clad in Gravis plate, these brothers provide a relentless hail of bolt fire. This is where many new Knights first taste combat in Power Armor, learning the weight of the Gravis plate and the necessity of the "sustained volley" to dismantle enemy infantry waves with grim, stoic efficiency.
Desolator and Heavy Hellblaster Squads
The 5th Company fields a large number of Desolator Marines. These specialists utilize their Castellan launchers to rain indirect fire upon enemies hiding behind cover, ensuring there is no safety from the Iron Line’s reach. They are complemented by Heavy Hellblasters, who utilize the most powerful configurations of plasma weaponry to punch through elite infantry and light vehicles.
Eradicators and The Executioner
For the most stubborn of targets, the Iron Line deploys its 18 Eradicators. Often transported to the most advantageous firing positions by the Repulsor Executioner, these Melta-specialists are the bane of enemy heavy armor. The Repulsor Executioners acts as the company’s anchor, its heavy laser destroyer providing the long-range punch that can core a fortification or monster.
The Role of their Captain: "Master of the Watch"
The Captain of the 5th Company is the Master of the Watch. He is the Chapter’s supreme strategist for static defense and surveillance. Beyond his tactical duties, he acts as the dean of the Knight tradition, overseeing the transition of Scouts into the disciplined, heavy-infantry core of the Chapter.
In combat, the Master of the Watch is the ultimate observer. He rarely engages in the frantic melee of the front lines, instead positioning himself where he can view the entire theater of war. From his command post, often a fortified parapet or the hatch of a tank, he directs the company’s fire with the calm of a grandmaster playing a game of regicide.
